Hola chicos!
In class today, you will practice reading an authentic blog entry that deals with ecology, the environment, animals and/or energy. Please go to this site, and select an article that interests you. Notice you can select an article that deals with a specific theme (look on the right hand bar of the web site), or n article that is tagged with a key word (go down to the pink box with tags used in the blog).
Once you picked an article (your article should be at least 2-3 paragraphs long), use the reading techniques you have learned and read it.
1. Jot down 2-3 new Spanish vocabulary words & the English meaning.
2. Did your article include any sentences that used the subjunctive or future? Jot that sentence down & the Enlgish meaning.
3. In Spanish tell me what you learned from reading the article. 1-2 sentence max! Use YOUR words.
4. Also in Spanish, use the subjunctive to express wish/doubt about something that was explained or talked about in the article.
5. Hyperlink the specific article you read and the answers to the questions above to the NING on your personal blog & name it : Ecologia.

You have three activities you need to do in class today. The first is a listening activity. Please go to the Ning and look at the very bottom for the widget with music and audio MP3s. Find 7B WAV #8. Listen to it and fill out the worksheet that goes with it. On the back of the worksheet, Actividay 12, you will find 8 questions. Please answer those in Spanish using complete sentences. Most answers will include the prepostion POR used in context. Turn that paper in and pick up the question guide "Comida Española". Go to this slideshow. View the different Spanish foods & answer the questions on your paper. We will discuss what you saw as a class.
Vamos a aprender un poco sobre el terremoto de Chile hoy. Con un compañero van a escribir sobre un tira editorial (editorial cartoon). Antes de escribir, habla con tu compañero de lo que ves en tu papel. Busca las palabras que no conoces. Escribe un borrador (draft) en el papel. Cambia papeles y lee lo que escribe tu compañero. ¿Necesita correcciones? Ahora vayan a esta entrada para la tira de la Parca (Grim Reaper) o a ésta para la tira de los moais en la isla de Pascua (Easter Island). Pongan su escritura creativa en los comentarios.
Si tienen tiempo vayan a este sitio y encuentren un periódico de Sur America con noticias sobre el terremoto de Chile. Miren los resumenes de noticias (headlines). ¿Qué palabras conocen? ¿Qué palabras son importantes y tienen que buscar en el diccionario? ¿Qué palabras son cognados (cognates)? Hagan una lista.

Go to this photo in Flickr. This will be the start of a scavenger hunt at THS. Each photo will have boxes. If you hover your mouse over each box you will get a verb and a hyperlink. Write down the Uds command for the verb in the box that you pick and that will take you to the next location at THS. You goal is to find the extra credit opportunity. When you are done, use an online resource to get help with your possible EC opportunity.

I want you to view the following presentation on plural commands. You will have a guided worksheet to take notes, and I expect you to answer all the questions on the worksheet and the presentation. After that you will go to quia to practice what you learned. A score of 90% or better means you will not have homework. You can use your notes when you do the practice, but I don't want you to use your partners.

As promised here is some enrichment work for you on your snow day. You need to have this done when I see you in class. We are getting some help today from Mr. Zachary Jones by visiting his blog and reading all about Paella & Valencia.
1. First go to this post. Our very own Rachel B from 5th bell wrote the fabulous post about a paella party she had earlier this year.
2. At the end of the article there are 6 comprehension questions, please go to YOUR personal blog (call it "Trabajo de día de nieve") on the Ning and answer them. Also mention if you have ever eaten paella yourself and/or if you want to try it sometime.
3. Rachel says: "Cuando todos mis amigos habían llegado, nosotros preparamos la paella todos juntos." Does that tense look like something you have learned recently?
4. Now go to this post. Read the article about Josh Rouse & his song Valencia. Answer the comprehension questions at the bottom of the article on the same blog post that you used for Rachel's article on the Ning.
5. On the same post you will see a "Cloze Activity- Josh Rouse-Valencia". Print the "Cloze activity" that is hyperlinked. Listen to the song (click on his name & a mp3 file will play) & fill in the blanks. Please bring that to class.

Rodrigo y Gabriela son unos músicos mexicanos. Cuando eran jóvenes eran miembros de un conjunto de música Metal. Querían explorar otros géneros de música y por eso viajaron a Dublín, Irlanda. Ellos tocaron música en las calles y tabernas de Dublín. En 2006 ellos grabaron un álbum llamado Rodrigo y Gabriela que fue muy popular en Europa. Empezaron a dar conciertos en Europa y en los EEUU. En el álbum tocaron Orion de Metallica y Stairway to Heaven de Led Zeppelin, y ambas canciones están representadas con sólo las dos guitaras. Cuando dieron un concierto en vivo en los estudios de MTV, muchas personas en los EEUU empezaron a prestarles atención. El año pasado grabaron su segundo LP llamado 11:11. Este grupo estará en Cincinnati el diez de marzo y dará un concierto en el teatro Madison.
